Parrot Orders Amazon Items

Amazon’s Alexa has become a household staple, helping with everything from reminders to online shopping. But in a bizarre twist, a parrot in the UK decided to take charge—by ordering strawberries and broccoli through the voice assistant.

The African grey parrot, named Rocco, was rescued by the National Animal Welfare Trust in the UK. Known for his cheeky language, Rocco was taken in by Marion Wischnewski, a staff member at the charity. However, the clever bird soon picked up a new hobby: Chatting with Alexa.

In April, Wischnewski was surprised when Alexa read out an unexpected shopping list—Rocco had added strawberries and broccoli worth $3. Fortunately, the order wasn’t processed because the device required manual confirmation. “We could cancel the items before they were delivered,” Wischnewski told CNBC Make It.

According to the charity’s blog, Rocco had also tried ordering treats like watermelon, raisins, and ice cream. The mischievous parrot even enjoyed playing romantic music when left alone.

Wischnewski, who never had issues with Alexa before, found the situation amusing. “We all talk to Alexa, so Rocco just joined in,” she said. To prevent future surprises, she enabled a PIN for purchases—though she admits Rocco might eventually learn it if he hears the code enough.

For now, the tech-savvy parrot remains under watch—proving that in the age of smart homes, even pets can go digital.
