Pune: PMC Begins Dismantling BRTS Stretch on Ahmednagar Road After Ajit Pawar’s Instructions

Pune, Apr 15, 2025 – Responding to long-standing demands from citizens and local politicians, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun dismantling the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) stretch between Somnath Nagar and Kharadi Octroi Naka on Ahmednagar Road. This action comes after Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar directed civic authorities to remove the BRTS infrastructure in a meeting held last week.
Concerns over growing traffic congestion in the area were consistently raised by civic activists and former MLA Sunil Tingre of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Tingre emphasized that the removal of the BRTS was a key public demand due to the traffic chaos it caused. “Guardian minister Ajit Pawar instructed the municipal commissioner to remove the BRTS as decided by PMC itself previously. Accordingly, civic officials started the work to remove the BRTS structures on the 3-km stretch,” Tingre stated.
Previously, the PMC had dismantled BRTS structures between Yerawada and Vimannagar Chowk. The current phase of removal marks another step in addressing traffic issues on this crucial road corridor.
