Pune: PMC Deploys Fog Cannon Machines to Tackle Rising Air Pollution

Pune, April 5, 2025 – In a bid to combat worsening air pollution, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has deployed five advanced fog cannon machines across key city roads. These machines, purchased under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) with funding from the 15th Finance Commission, aim to reduce dust and improve air quality.
A live demonstration of the fog cannon was conducted at the PMC headquarters on Thursday. Prithviraj B P, Additional Municipal Commissioner, stated, “These machines will help control air pollution, particularly in high-traffic zones, by suppressing road dust.”
The fog cannons, mounted on CNG-powered trucks, are equipped with a 6,000-litre water tank, a high-pressure pump, and 22 specialized nozzles. These nozzles spray ultra-fine water droplets (as small as 50 microns) to neutralize harmful PM 10 and PM 2.5 particles, which pose serious risks to respiratory and cardiovascular health.
The machines will operate on major routes, including:
- Shivajinagar to Baner
- Karve Road (PMC HQ to Warje)
- Satara Road (Swargate to Kondhwa via Katraj)
- Solapur Road (Swargate to Shewalewadi)
- Sangamwadi to Kesanand Phata via Yerwada
- Sinhagad Road (Dandekar Bridge to Dhayari Phata)
This initiative underscores PMC’s commitment to cleaner air under the NCAP framework.
