Pune: Chinchwad Station to Chinchwad Gaon Railway Overbridge Closed After Partial Collapse; Traffic Diverted

A portion of the railway overpass near Chinchwad Station collapsed, prompting authorities to close the bridge for traffic once again. Light vehicular movement from Chinchwad Station towards Chincwad Gaon has been diverted to an adjacent bridge. However, with only one bridge operational, severe traffic congestion has been reported in the area.
The bridge connects key routes, including the Mumbai-Pune and Mumbai-Bengaluru highways, and serves both residential and industrial zones. Two parallel overpasses exist—one older bridge leading towards Chinchwad village and a newer one towards the Mumbai-Pune highway.
Two years ago, the Railways had alerted the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) about the deteriorating condition of the older bridge. Repairs and resurfacing were carried out a year ago, after which it was reopened—but only for light vehicles like two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small cars. Heavy vehicles remained barred.
Following the recent collapse, railway officials inspected the site with municipal authorities and recommended immediate repairs. Until the work is completed, traffic has been halted, and commuters are advised to use alternative routes.
PCMC Executive Engineer Prerana Sinkar assured that the bridge would reopen after repairs are completed. Meanwhile, diverted traffic has led to bottlenecks near Chinchwad Chowk, worsened by heavy vehicles entering from Chinchwad village.
