Big Boost for Tourism in Pune as Ropeways to be Built at 8 Iconic Locations

Pune’s tourism sector is set to receive a major upgrade with the introduction of ropeways at eight iconic locations across the district. This initiative is part of the Central Government’s Parvatmala Yojana, aimed at developing hill areas and promoting tourism nationwide.
The Maharashtra state government has approved the project, and an official order has been issued to begin construction. National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) will oversee the ropeway projects under the guidance of the central government.
The eight locations selected for the ropeways include:
- Khandoba, Nimgaon (Khed Taluka)
- Bhimashankar (Khed Taluka)
- Shivneri (Junnar Taluka)
- Lenyadri (Junnar Taluka)
- Darya Ghat (Junnar Taluka)
- Sinhagad (Pune Taluka)
- Jejuri (Purandar Taluka)
- Rajgad (Velhe Taluka)
Three of these spots are in Junnar Taluka, two in Khed Taluka, and the remaining in Pune, Purandar, and Velha Talukas. For land acquisition, the government has proposed two options: if the land belongs to the Public Works Department (PWD), it will be leased to NHLML for 30 years. If the land is private or government-owned, the PWD will acquire it before transferring it to NHLML.
Once operational, these ropeways are expected to significantly increase tourist footfall, boost the local economy, and contribute to the overall development of the region. This project aligns with the Modi government’s efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure and promote India’s cultural and historical sites.
