Pune: RTO to Increase HSRP Installation Centres to 500 to Meet Rising Demand

The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced plans to significantly increase the number of High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) installation centres from 125 to 500 by April 30, 2025. This move comes in response to the growing demand for HSRP installations, as citizens face long appointment wait times, with some being scheduled as late as July.
The state government’s transport department has set a strict deadline of April 30 for the installation of HSRP plates, particularly for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. However, the current capacity of 125 authorised centres has proven insufficient to handle the demand, leading to delays and inconvenience for vehicle owners.
During a meeting held on Monday, Pune RTO officials directed the authorised vendor, Rosmerta Company, to expedite the process of setting up additional centres. Swapnil Bhosale, Pune RTO Deputy Regional Transport Officer, stated, “We have instructed the vendor to double the number of centres to provide hassle-free service to citizens. We aim to increase the number of centres to 500 in a phased manner by next month.”
Citizens have expressed frustration over the current situation. One individual shared, “I tried to book an appointment for my three vehicles on March 16, but the earliest available slot was in July. The RTO needs to increase the number of centres to accommodate applicants.” Another citizen recounted, “I had to wait over four hours at a centre in Moshi last week and take a day off from work just to install the HSRP plate.”
With over 25 lakh vehicles in Pune district requiring new HSRP plates, the RTO’s decision to expand installation centres is expected to alleviate the backlog and ensure compliance with the state government’s deadline.
