Pune: Three Friends Drown in Indrayani River During Post-Holi Outing Near Dehu Road

Pune: A post-Holi outing turned tragic for five friends from Chikhali when three of them drowned in the Indrayani River at Kinai village near Dehu Road on Friday evening. The deceased have been identified as Raj Aghame (25), Akash Gorde (24), and Gautam Kamble (24), all residents of Gharkul in Chikhali.

According to Senior Inspector Vikram Bansode of Dehu Road police, the group had visited the Bodkewadi bund on the Indrayani River after celebrating Holi. Four of them entered the river, but one began to drown. The other three friends attempted to rescue him but tragically drowned themselves. The friend who initially struggled in the water managed to swim to safety.

Upon receiving the information, the police alerted the fire brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local rescue teams. Nilesh Garade of Wanyajeev Rakshak Maval stated that their team recovered the three bodies within 15 minutes of arriving at the scene.

Pimpri Chinchwad police reports revealed that a group of six friends had entered the river at the Bodkewadi embankment for a swim. When one of them faced difficulty in the water, his friends rushed to help. While the drowning friend was successfully rescued, three of the rescuers lost their lives.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem, and a case of accidental death has been registered.
