Maharashtra is in the grip of an intense heatwave, with temperatures skyrocketing across the state. On March 12, 2025, Akola recorded a scorching 41.3°C, making it the hottest location in the region. Close behind were Chandrapur at 40.6°C and Pune’s Lohegaon at 40.2°C. Other cities like Jalgaon, Solapur, and Amravati also baked under temperatures nearing 40°C, leaving residents scrambling for relief.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Vidarbha and Konkan regions, warning of even higher temperatures on March 14 and 15. Districts such as Akola and Chandrapur are expected to bear the brunt, while Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri may also experience unusual spikes in heat. The IMD has urged people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and take extra care of vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.

Pune, known for its relatively moderate climate, is also feeling the heat. Lohegaon recorded a sweltering 40.2°C, while Shivajinagar saw temperatures climb to 38.2°C, signaling a worrying warming trend.

Authorities are advising residents to take precautionary measures, including wearing light clothing, staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, and drinking plenty of water.
