The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has increased the number of centers to manage the heavy rush for high-security registration plate (HSRP) installations. Despite the state transport department extending the deadline for HSRP registration to April 30, officials admit that covering approximately 25 lakh vehicles in the state within two months remains a challenge.

In Pune district alone, over 25 lakh vehicles require the new high-security number plates. Vehicle owners must complete a multi-step process, including visiting the online portal, filling out details, submitting applications, scheduling fitness center inspections, paying fees, and finally installing the HSRP. The cost for installation ranges between ₹531 and ₹879, including GST, depending on the vehicle type.

Swapnil Bhosale, Pune RTO Deputy Regional Transport Officer, stated, “A total of 112,548 citizens have applied for HSRP number plates in Pune till date, of which 25,043 have completed the installation. To reduce the waiting period, we have increased the number of centers from 69 to 124.”

Vehicle owners, however, report waiting periods of 15 to 20 days, highlighting the ongoing challenges in meeting the high demand.
