Pune: Metro Plans Feeder Services with Auto Drivers to Ease Commutes

Pune, 4th March 2025: In a move to enhance last-mile connectivity for metro commuters, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has announced plans to collaborate with auto-rickshaw drivers to implement a Joint Action Plan. This initiative aims to improve access to Pune Metro services while helping reduce traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar emphasized that integrating auto-rickshaw services with metro operations would provide a seamless and economical transport option for commuters while benefiting rickshaw drivers through increased short-distance trips. The initiative is expected to decrease reliance on private vehicles, ultimately easing road congestion in key areas.
Supporting the move, Baba Shinde, president of the Maharashtra State Goods and Passenger Transport Association, stated that auto unions are willing to cooperate with MahaMetro’s plan. He also highlighted their readiness to operate on meter-based fares, ensuring fair pricing for commuters. The collaboration is set to enhance commuter convenience while fostering greater awareness among rickshaw drivers regarding feeder services.
