The Maharashtra government has announced a major reform in the Class 11 admission process, introducing a statewide online admission system starting from the 2025-26 academic year. This decision, aligned with the Chief Minister’s ‘Ease of Living’ initiative, aims to simplify and standardize the admission process, reducing the burden on students and parents.

Expanding a Proven System Statewide

For several years, the online admission system has been operational in key urban centers like Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Amravati, Nagpur, and Nashik. Recognizing its success, the School Education Department has decided to expand it across the entire state, ensuring transparency and efficiency in admissions.

Under this new system, the admission process will be centrally managed by the Director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, with oversight from the Education Commissioner. Junior colleges and higher secondary schools across all divisions—Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Latur, and Kolhapur—will be required to submit essential data regarding student intake capacity, available subjects, and institutional categories.

Implementation and Awareness Initiatives

To ensure a smooth transition, the government will introduce a structured tender system for the selection of the online service provider. Additionally, necessary guidelines will be issued to facilitate the process.

To help students and parents adapt to the new system, the government will roll out awareness programs, including audio-visual training materials. The admission process will follow a structured timeline, including four regular rounds of seat allotment before the academic year begins. After these rounds, an open merit-based admission window will allow junior colleges to fill any remaining seats.

This move is expected to bring uniformity and efficiency to the Class 11 admission process, making it easier for students across Maharashtra to secure placements in their preferred colleges.
