Pune: Maan-Hinjewadi Metro to Begin Trial Run Soon as Three Coaches Arrive
Pune: The much-anticipated Maan-Hinjewadi -Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 is nearing completion, with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) set to begin trial runs soon. The metro corridor, which connects Hinjewadi (Maan, Megapolis) to Shivajinagar, is the third metro route linking Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Metro Coaches Arrive for Testing
Three metro coaches have already arrived for trial runs, while the fourth and final coach is expected to be delivered by the end of March. The newly arrived coaches are currently undergoing inspection before the test runs commence.
Metro Route and Construction Status
The fully elevated metro line passes over the Pune-Bengaluru Highway and the Mula River, with key stations at Baner, Sakal Nagar, and Civil Court, among others. However, construction work at these stations is still ongoing, with staircases and other essential infrastructure at 11 stations yet to be completed.
Project Delays and Revised Timeline
Despite significant progress, the project has faced delays. PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan acknowledged that some critical work is still pending, and the trial run will begin once these tasks are finished. Due to these setbacks, PMRDA issued a warning to the contractor and granted a six-month extension to complete the remaining work. The new deadline for project completion has been extended to October 2025.
Currently, 82% of the project work is completed, and after the successful trial run, the metro service will officially commence for the public. The Maan-Hinjewadi Metro is expected to provide a much-needed boost to Pune’s public transport system, reducing congestion and improving connectivity between Hinjewadi IT Hub and Shivajinagar.
