Pune: Tourist Police Stations to Be Set Up in Lonavala and Karla, Highway Expansion Plans in Motion

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has announced the establishment of Tourist Police Stations in Lonavala and Karla to enhance security for the rising number of tourists and devotees. This initiative aims to ensure the safety of visitors in these popular destinations within Pune District’s Maval taluka.

During a high-level meeting at Mantralaya, Pawar also discussed traffic congestion issues in the region. He assured that he would follow up with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for the widening of highways and construction of flyovers in Talegaon, Chakan, and Shikrapur to ease traffic flow.

Key Decisions from the Meeting:

  1. Funicular Ropeway Project: Approval for a funicular ropeway at Ekvira Devi Temple in Karla to improve accessibility for devotees.
  2. Healthcare Infrastructure: Directives to expedite the construction of Lonavala and Vadgaon (Kanhe) Sub-District Hospitals.
  3. Sports Complex in Jambhul: Approval of 2.60 hectares of land for a taluka sports complex in Jambhul village. The facility will include Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Football, Tennis, and an Athletic Track.
  4. Water Supply Projects: Review of regional water supply schemes under the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran in Done, Adhale, Dongargaon Kusgaon, Patan, Karla, and surrounding areas. Pawar emphasized the swift completion of these projects and assured additional funding if required.

He also stressed the importance of developing a state-of-the-art sports complex in Jambhul to enhance the prestige of Maval taluka.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Public Health and Family Welfare Prakash Abitkar (via video conference), Maval MLA Sunil Shelke, and senior officials from Urban Development, Public Works, Finance and Planning, Water Supply, Sanitation, Health, MSRDC, MIDC, Home, and Sports Departments.
