A driver shared his harrowing near-miss on NH-6 near Nagpur, where his Kia Seltos’ Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helped him escape what could have been a serious crash.
A Routine Drive Turns Into a Nightmare
The driver, an automobile enthusiast, was cruising down NH-6 at around 8 PM, maintaining a safe distance from vehicles ahead. With a massive oil tanker to his right and a container truck in front, he was waiting for the right moment to overtake when suddenly, disaster struck.
The container truck ahead came to a dead stop without warning—its wheels locked up. It had just rear-ended another container truck, which had braked suddenly to avoid hitting a puppy on the road. With barely any room to react, the driver found himself hurtling towards the stationary truck at 40 kmph, knowing that simply slamming the brakes wouldn’t be enough.
ABS & ESC: The Life-Saving Tech
With instincts kicking in, the driver slammed the brakes hard while quickly yanking the steering wheel left to avoid a collision. Thanks to ABS, his wheels didn’t lock up, allowing him to maintain control, while ESC ensured the car didn’t spin out or slide uncontrollably.
“If this had been an older car without ABS and ESC, I probably would’ve crashed straight into the truck or lost control while swerving,” he shared.
