The Pune City Police Commissionerate successfully organized the annual ‘Tarang 2025’ program on February 15, a cultural festival aimed at fostering camaraderie and mental well-being among police personnel and their families. The event, held in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, highlighted the sacrifices of police officers who often stay away from festivals and family celebrations to ensure public safety.

Chief Minister’s Address:
Chief Minister Fadnavis praised the Pune Police for their exceptional work in maintaining law and order, solving crimes, and ensuring swift responses to serious incidents. He emphasized Pune’s importance as Maharashtra’s manufacturing and technology hub and acknowledged the police force’s role in making the city safer. Fadnavis also highlighted the state government’s efforts to modernize policing through technology, including the creation of Maharashtra’s best cyber platform, accessible via the central helpline number 1945.

During his speech, Fadnavis inaugurated a fleet of 39 four-wheelers and the ‘Cop-24 Patrolling Bike Squad,’ aimed at enhancing policing efficiency. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing infrastructure and welfare measures for the police force, ensuring they are well-equipped to serve the public.

Launch of ‘Cop-24’ Initiative:
The ‘Cop-24’ initiative, a technology-driven patrolling system, was officially launched at the event. Designed to improve police visibility and reduce response times, the initiative features:

  • Faster Response Times: Emergency calls to the 112-helpline will be attended to within five minutes.
  • Strategic Deployment: High-crime zones will be mapped for optimized patrolling.
  • Technology Integration: GPS tracking, QR code monitoring, and body cameras for accountability.
  • Women-Focused Policing: Female beat marshals will handle complaints to ensure a sensitive approach to gender-related crimes.

The initiative will deploy 726 beat marshals across 39 police stations, supported by 123 two-wheelers and 39 four-wheelers equipped with advanced technology. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that ‘Cop-24’ aims to modernize policing, reduce crime rates, and build public trust.

Honoring Exceptional Police Personnel:
Chief Minister Fadnavis felicitated police officers and personnel for their outstanding contributions in various fields, including crime prevention, community policing, transport, and law and order. Notable honorees included:

  • Crime Prevention: Nikhil Nandkumar Pingale (DCP), Govind Sayaji Jadhav (PI), and team members from the Crime Branch.
  • Community Policing: Girisha Abhyudaya Nimbalkar (Senior PI) and Pravin Vitthalrao Ghadge (APC).
  • Transport Branch: Sunil Pandurang Pandharkar and Kumar Gulabrao Ghadge (PIs).
  • Law and Order: Sandeep Singh Gill (DCP) and Vijaymala Mahadev Pawar (Senior PI).
  • Beyond Duty: Dr. Sandeep Ramdas Bhajibhakare (DCP) and Jack, the police dog.

Special recognition was also given to the children of police personnel, including Saloni and Shritej Malhari Jagade, who won national and international medals in Taekwondo, and Gauri Ramdas, a deaf swimmer.
