Pune: After ‘Mission 15’, PMC to Launch ‘Mission 17’ for Quick Repairs Involving More Roads

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up to launch ‘Mission 17’, a large-scale road repair and infrastructure improvement project, following the successful completion of ‘Mission 15’. The new initiative aims to enhance key roads across Pune by addressing damaged surfaces, footpaths, street furniture, and encroachments.
PMC officials confirmed that ₹2 crore was spent in the past two months under ‘Mission 15’, covering 95 km of roads across various locations, including:
- Nagar Road, Solapur Road, Magarpatta Road, Pashan Road, Baner Road, Sangamwadi Road
- Airport VIP Road, Karve Road, Paud Road, Satara Road, Sinhagad Road, Bibvewadi Road
- North Main Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Bajirao Road
With ‘Mission 15’ completed, the civic body is now conducting a survey of 17 major roads to evaluate their condition and determine necessary repairs. ‘Mission 17’ will focus on improving roads such as:
- Saswad Road, Fergusson College Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Sadhu Vaswani Road
- Kondhwa Main Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Tilak Road, and several others
However, citizen activists remain critical of PMC’s approach. Vivek Velankar, a member of Sajag Nagrik Manch, pointed out persistent issues in road development, highlighting poor planning and non-compliance with Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines.
“Simply repairing roads is not enough if underlying traffic issues remain unaddressed. The PMC often neglects IRC guidelines, leading to subpar results,” said Velankar.
Despite the criticism, PMC remains committed to its mission of improving Pune’s road infrastructure, with ‘Mission 17’ expected to bring significant upgrades across the city.
