The Regional Transport Office in Pune has ordered that all vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019, convert to High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) by March 31, 2025, in an effort to improve vehicle safety and expedite identification. This action represents a major push towards updating vehicle security and is based on a recent Supreme Court ruling.

Only over 2,500 drivers have replaced their old plates thus far, which alarms the RTO, which is responsible for over 2.5 million pre-2019 cars. Authorities urge owners to take immediate action, warning that any additional delay might result in fines.

A Simplified Procedure for Adherence

At least two days before to the date of installation, vehicle owners must register online at mhhsrp.com. The system lets you schedule an installation within ninety days, but if you don’t finish the update in that time, the cost isn’t refundable.

“Vehicle owners will have to register online at https://mhhsrp. com. A total of 9,500 vehicle drivers have submitted applications for changing the plate on this link. Out of these, 2,500 vehicle owners have installed HSRP on their vehicles. The remaining 5,000 vehicle drivers are still waiting. The work of installing the plate started on January 25,” said Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale. The RTO is also establishing a support station at the RTO office for anyone having difficulties in order to guarantee a seamless procedure. Pune has set up 69 specialized locations around the city to accommodate the huge demand, making it easier to obtain this crucial service.

Fee Structure

The fees for the installation are structured as follows:

  • Two-wheelers and tractors: Rs 450
  • Three-wheelers: Rs 500
  • Four-wheelers, medium, and heavy commercial vehicles: Rs 745 (excluding GST)

These nominal charges are a small investment towards enhancing overall road safety and ensuring each vehicle is readily identifiable.

Pune’s vehicle owners are encouraged to embrace this change without delay, contributing to a safer and more secure driving environment across the city.
