In a significant development for Pune’s infrastructure, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) next week for the construction of the Shivajinagar ST depot. The decision was finalized during a crucial meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Pune’s Guardian Minister, Ajit Pawar, at Mantralaya in Mumbai. The meeting was attended by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, and senior officials from the Transport Department, MSRTC, and Maha-Metro. Ajit Pawar directed Maha-Metro to work in coordination with MSRTC to ensure the timely and effective completion of the project.

The Shivajinagar ST depot project, estimated to cost between Rs 250 crore and Rs 300 crore, aims to address the traffic congestion caused by the current bus depot operating from Wakdewadi. MSRTC had offered land to Maha-Metro in 2019 for the construction of the Shivajinagar underground metro station, and as per the agreement, Maha-Metro will facilitate the construction of the new bus depot.

In addition to the Shivajinagar project, Minister Madhuri Misal highlighted the approval of her proposal to develop a similar bus depot in Swargate. She emphasized that integrating ST services and metro services at Swargate, a key transit hub, would greatly benefit passengers traveling across the state.

BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole, who shared updates on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that the MoU signing will pave the way for the foundation stone laying ceremony in the coming months.

This project is expected to significantly improve Pune’s public transportation infrastructure, easing traffic congestion and providing seamless connectivity for commuters.
