Pune, February 11, 2025: Former MLA Sunil Tingre has reiterated his demand for the complete removal of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route in Pune, citing persistent traffic congestion and a surge in accidents.
Tingre, who has been vocal about the issue, successfully pushed for the removal of the BRT stretch from Yerawada to Somnath Nagar Chowk following an order from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. However, the BRT route from Somnath Nagar Chowk to Kharadi remains operational, continuing to pose risks to commuters.
On Monday night, a tanker entering the BRT route caused a massive traffic jam, severely affecting residents of Chandan Nagar, Kharadi, and Vadgaon Sheri during their morning commute. Tingre and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have urged the Municipal Corporation and Police Administration to act swiftly to dismantle the remaining BRT route, which they describe as “incomplete and life-threatening.”
They warn of a public movement if no action is taken to address the ongoing issues of accidents, traffic congestion, and public inconvenience.
