Hinjewadi, known for its prominent IT hub, has been grappling with severe traffic congestion for years, prompting the collaboration between PMRDA and MIDC. The upcoming meeting will focus on addressing these challenges, identifying issues, and planning concrete measures to improve the situation.

Notably, most of Hinjewadi lies within the jurisdiction of MIDC, making it responsible for road infrastructure. However, some roads fall under the Public Works Department, which is why both organizations have decided to work together to resolve the traffic issues in the area. Following the meeting, the necessary actions will be communicated to local gram panchayats and the police department.

One of the primary challenges is encroachment, which has significantly contributed to traffic delays. MIDC is prioritizing the removal of illegal structures, with some illegal constructions between Phase 1 and Marunji village already demolished. Additional measures will be implemented in due course to further alleviate the situation.

Current Traffic Scenario

The traffic flow from Pimpri Chinchwad to Hinjewadi faces major congestion at Wakad Chowk, creating bottlenecks. Additionally, the route from Wakad Chowk to Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk, along with areas around Hinjewadi Phase 1 and Phase 2, also experiences severe traffic, particularly during peak hours.

Despite previous attempts to alleviate the congestion, they have not been sufficient. This collaboration between PMRDA and MIDC is expected to bring substantial improvements, offering relief to commuters in the region.
