Pune: Heavy rain expected over the weekend, IMD sounds orange alert
Pune, June 28: Pune city has been placed under a yellow alert today, escalating to an orange alert from June 29 to July 2, as per IMD forecasts.
Expect heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in the ghat areas, due to a weakening cyclonic circulation in the Arabian Sea. Weather scientist Vineet Kumar predicts that this cyclonic circulation, which was disrupting Maharashtra’s monsoon flow, will weaken by tomorrow, clearing the path for heavy monsoon activity.
The monsoon winds are expected to strengthen further in the next 24 hours, bringing extensive rainfall across Maharashtra, including the ghats, Konkan, and Pune catchment areas from June 29 to July 8.
Citizens are cautioned while traveling to ghat areas this weekend due to the heightened risks of waterlogging, landslides, and rockfalls.
Stay vigilant and prioritize safety.
