Pune: ST Bus Veers Off and Falls into a Ditch in Bhor 42 Injured, 3 Critical
Pune, September 30, 2024: In a tragic accident near Mahude Budruk in Bhor Taluka, Pune district, a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus carrying 42 passengers veered off the road, leaving all on board injured.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on a sharp turn as the bus was en route from Mahude to Bhor. The bus, identified as MH 06 S 8289, experienced a technical malfunction, leading the driver to lose control. It swerved off the road and crashed into a nearby ditch, preventing what could have been a more devastating accident.
According to initial reports, 39 passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Bhor Sub-District Hospital. Dr. Anand Sabne, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, confirmed that 14 of these passengers were admitted for further treatment. Meanwhile, three critically injured passengers were transferred to a private hospital in Bhor, where they remain under intensive care.
Eyewitnesses described the bus as being fully packed, and many feared for their lives as the vehicle skidded off the road and became stuck in a muddy pit, averting a potentially more disastrous outcome. Locals were quick to respond, assisting in the rescue efforts before emergency services arrived.
Frequent mechanical issues with buses from the Bhor depot have raised concerns, and local authorities suspect a mechanical fault may have been the cause of this accident. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the technical failure that led to the driver’s loss of control.
Relatives of the injured gathered outside the hospital, anxiously awaiting updates. Both the police and the Bhor depot officials are conducting a detailed investigation into the accident.
