Heavy traffic reported from Mumbai-Pune Expressway resulting in long queues and increased travel time
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is witnessing heavy traffic this weekend. This is particularly more evident on Pune bound side of the expressway. Commuters are facing long delays. There are long queues on important parts of the expressway.
Heavy traffic has been reported on the Khandala Ghat. There is a 2-3 kilometer long queue of vehicles at the Khalapur Toll Plaza. People describe it as “absolutely crazy,” with cars moving slowly. Those going to Pune have to wait for a long time. They spend about 25 minutes at the Khalapur Toll, then an extra 10 minutes at the Amrutanjan Bridge, and another 5 minutes at the second toll before getting to Pune.
Adding to the frustration, traffic from Pune to Mumbai is stuck near the Khopoli Toll. There are no alerts or help from the authorities. This total blockage has left many travelers trapped and trying to find other routes.
Earlier during the day, a 20-minute delay was reported on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway towards Pune. This shows that the traffic problems started before the busy travel times. With the weekend and the Ganpati festival going on, people from Pune and Mumbai are traveling between the two cities to seek blessings from Ganpati Bappa, resulting in higher traffic volumes on the expressway.
Commuters should plan their travel and stay informed about the traffic. The traffic jam is likely to last all weekend as more people travel between the two cities.
