Pune: PMC Conducts Clean Air Programme on International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) celebrated the ‘Clean Air for Blue Skies’ programme on Friday as part of the National Clean Air Program (NCAP). The event, organized by the environmental department of PMC, coincided with the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies.

Inaugurating the event, PMC Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, along with additional municipal commissioner (east) Prithviraj B.P., released balloons as a symbolic gesture for cleaner air. Dr. Bhosale emphasized the importance of clean air for a healthy environment, stating, “Clean air is essential not only for our health but also for the environment. We must all work together to reduce air pollution.”

A signature campaign was also launched during the event, engaging citizens in the cause of improving air quality. Speaking at the event, deputy commissioner of the environmental department, Sanjay Shinde, highlighted the significance of the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. He said, “This day is crucial for raising awareness about the harmful effects of air pollution. Through initiatives like today’s event, we aim to spread this message to citizens and encourage them to contribute to cleaner air.”

Pune is one of 131 cities across India, including 19 in Maharashtra, working towards reducing air pollution under the NCAP.
