Pune: PMRDA Issues Notice to Pune Metro for Damaged Roads
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has issued a notice to Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) regarding the poor condition of the roads between Maan-Hinjewadi-Wakad and the Shivajinagar area, which has been attributed to ongoing metro construction work. PMRDA has demanded that the company repair the roads within 15 days, threatening to halt the project if the repairs are not completed.
The metro line, which stretches from Maan-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, is being constructed by PITCMRL, which is also responsible for maintaining the roads affected by the construction. However, complaints from motorists and residents about the deteriorating road conditions have been mounting.
PMRDA commissioner Yogesh Mhase officially issued the notice late Thursday, marking the first formal warning to PITCMRL. Previously, the metro company had only received oral instructions to address the road damage. “We have received many complaints about the damaged roads. Although we had orally asked them to repair the roads earlier, they failed to do so adequately,” Mhase said, adding that the company now has a 15-day window to make the necessary repairs.
This action follows earlier directives from Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, who instructed officials to maintain road conditions in areas where metro construction is ongoing.
Dnyaneshwar Bhale, a spokesperson for PMRDA, confirmed that the notice was served to Alok Kapoor, CEO of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, on Thursday evening. Kapoor was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.
