Pune: Only 23 pubs and discotheques in city are licensed, RTI Query Reveals
An RTI query has revealed that only 23 pubs and discotheques in the city hold proper licenses.
For years, numerous pubs and discotheques have been operating in Pune and its outskirts without obtaining the necessary licenses from the authorities. According to information obtained through an RTI query, only 23 of these establishments are compliant with the required licenses, and one of these licenses has been cancelled. This information was sought by Advocate Sameer Shaikh through the RTI.
The Pune Police, in response to Advocate Sameer Shaikh’s application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, provided a list of 23 authorized pubs and discos, with one license being revoked. There is a pressing need for more stringent regulation of these establishments to ensure public safety and prevent future incidents.
Advocate Sameer Shaikh, on behalf of the citizens, is demanding the permanent closure of unauthorized establishments and a prohibition on their reopening. While recent actions are a positive step, the authorities must take timely and decisive action to prevent these businesses from operating illegally.
Enforcing the law through necessary actions will demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintaining law and order in the city and protecting its citizens.
Recent measures taken by the police, such as tightening the midnight curfew and using breathalyzers to prevent drunkenness, are positive steps. However, these efforts must be sustained, and action must be taken to enforce the law and prevent the reopening of illegal establishments.
