Pune: Three killed as speeding truck knocks down people returning from funeral in Junnar
At least three people, including a minor boy, were killed after a speeding truck knocked down a group of villagers returning on motorcycles from a funeral on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan highway in Pune district’s Junnar tehsil.
The accident occurred around on Friday at around11:30 AM in the Gulunchwadi area of Junnar taluka. The Junnar police said the truck was coming from Ahmednagar when lost control on the slope towards Alephata.
According to the police, the truck also collided with a few private vehicles at the accident site in Gulunchwadi under the Junnar tehsil.
A team from the Alephata police station of the Pune rural police rushed to the spot after receiving information.
Satish Hodgar, Inspector, said the truck coming from Ahmednagar lost control on the slope towards Alephata and rammed into the people who went for a funeral around 11.15 am. “A minor boy and a woman were among the three who died in the road accident. About six people were also injured in the accident,” said Hodgar.
The police took the injured people to a hospital in Alephata. Meanwhile, the accident sparked unrest among residents.
A process of lodging a First Information Report (FIR) against the truck driver was on at the Alephata police station, said officers.
