Pune: Temporary ban on heavy vehicles on the roads towards Gangadham Chowk following fatal accident
Pune, June 22, 2024: The city traffic police have ordered a temporary ban on heavy vehicles from 7 AM to 10 PM daily on two critical roads leading towards Gangadham Chowk, Bibwewadi Kondhwa Road, after another fatal accident occurred on June 12. The step was taken to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.
The prohibition will affect trucks, cement mixers, dumpers, and multi-axle commercial vehicles plying on the routes that start from Shatrunjay Temple and Tilekarnagar Chowk. These will join Aai Mata Mandir Road and move further towards Gangadham Chowk. It will not restrict any vehicle related to emergencies, essential services, or public transport.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A. Sarang said the ban is being implemented as a trial run. A notification in this regard will be made after a month, given the public opinion. For the present, heavy vehicles are being asked to use alternative routes through the Katraj-Kondhwa Bypass.

Public suggestions and objections to the proposed ban are welcome and must be addressed to the DCP (Traffic) office by July 5. The Bibwewadi-Kondhwa Road is considered one of the most sensitive traffic-prone areas with a steep gradient leading to a massive traffic load. The critical intervention has become essential after the recent accident on June 12, when a dumper, because of a slope, lost control, causing fatality and injury.
The temporary ban aims to avert clogging and likely accidents on the slender approach roads of Gangadham Chowk, one of the busiest sections.
