Pune city police have submitted an ‘investigation report’ to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) regarding the Pune Porsche Case. The report provides extensive details of the accident that occurred in the early hours of May 19. This case has attracted considerable public attention due to the involvement of a minor from a prominent family and the tragic deaths resulting from the incident.

Submission of the Investigation Report

Assistant Police Commissioner Sunil Tambe confirmed to media on Tuesday that the police submitted the detailed report to the JJB on Saturday. The report includes:

  • Statements from the minor driver and the other two minors present in the car during the accident
  • Narrations from individuals at the accident scene and various establishments
  • CCTV footage from the incident spot and pubs
  • Statements from employees of different establishments

Tambe emphasized that the comprehensive investigation report is crucial for the proceedings. The Juvenile Justice Board now faces the decision of whether to treat the minor accused as an adult and proceed with an adult trial.

Background of the Pune Porsche Case

On May 19, the son of a prominent builder was driving his Porsche at high speed under the influence of alcohol. He collided with a two-wheeler, resulting in the deaths of two young IT engineers, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Initially, the minor accused was granted bail by the JJB within 15 hours, with conditions like writing a 300-word essay and performing traffic duty. This decision sparked national outrage.

Police Efforts and Legal Proceedings

In response to public outcry, Pune city police filed a review application with the JJB. The board initially sent the juvenile to a correction home for 14 days, which was later extended by another 14 days. Subsequently, Pune Police argued in court for trying the minor as an adult. The court directed the police to formally request this consideration from the JJB, leading to the minor’s bail being revoked and his placement in a Remand Home for Boys.

Assistant Commissioner Tambe stated, “The report contains comprehensive information, including CCTV footage, statements from the driver, the two other minors in the car, and accounts from friends at a party before the accident.”

Allegations of Evidence Tampering

The investigation report also highlights a concerning incident involving the alleged swapping of the minor accused’s blood sample with that of his mother, at Sassoon General Hospital. This act was intended to conceal evidence of intoxication. The report indicates that the blood sample was disposed of in a biomedical waste bin. The company responsible for handling biomedical waste from Sassoon Hospital will be questioned regarding this matter.

Further, the report implicates two doctors and an employee of Sassoon Hospital in bribery to facilitate the blood sample swap. It confirms that the father of the minor accused, provided the funds for these bribes.

Next Steps for the JJB

With the submission of the detailed investigation report, the Juvenile Justice Board must now decide whether to proceed with an adult trial for the minor accused. This decision will be pivotal in determining the legal consequences and justice for the victims of the tragic accident.

The Pune Porsche case continues to be closely watched, with the public and media awaiting the JJB’s decision on the matter.
