MSRDC to finalize contractors for Pune ring road by July-end

Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Mumbai is set to finalize contractors for the Pune Ring Road Project by the end of July, with construction expected to begin post-monsoon, MSRDC’s vice-chairman and managing director Anilkumar Gaikwad said on Friday, TOI reported.

The ambitious 136-km project, comprising eastern and western corridors, has attracted 19 bids from various companies in March this year.

“We’re evaluating the bids now. Five companies will be selected for different stretches as the project will be executed in nine phases,” said Gaikwad.

Tenders had been invited by contractors on Jan 17. The deadline for submission of tenders was till March 1, and the submitted tenders were opened on March 26. The evaluation was delayed due to the Lok Sabha elections, added officials.

With 90% land acquisition complete for the western phase, the land acquisition for the easter phase is going on. The entire ring road, aimed at decongesting Pune city’s internal roads, is to be ready by Sept 2027.

The western corridor, spanning 65.45 km, will be constructed in five phases, ranging from 7.5km to 20km.

The 71.35-km eastern corridor will be built in four phases, with stretches varying from 11.85km to 24.5km.

The project’s scope includes as many as eight tunnels, three small bridges, two large bridges, and a half-km bridge across Khadakwasla dam’s backwaters.

The western ring road will pass through Bhor, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval talukas, while the eastern section passes via Maval, Khed, Haveli, Purandar, and Bhor talukas.

MSRDC officials said a loan has been secured from Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO). Land acquisition alone is estimated to cost Rs10,000 crore, covering 1,900 hectares across 87 villages. “Land acquisition for the eastern phase process should start in July-Aug after fund allocation,” an MSRDC official added.
