Monsoon may arrive in Maharashtra earlier than expected, check dates
Monsoon onset over Maharashtra is predicted to be earlier than expected, says former head of weather forecasting, IMD Pune.
Due to the intense summer heat this year, people in Maharashtra, along with other states, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of monsoon in their locations. Here we tell you what Anupam Kashyapi, former Head of Weather Forecasting Division, IMD Pune (tweeting in personal capacity) said on ‘X’ regarding the onset of monsoon in Maharashtra.
Early Signs of Monsoon in Maharashtra
A branch of the monsoon is currently strengthening, and the westerly wind off the Maharashtra coast is slowly settling. This shift in wind patterns indicates the onset of pre-monsoon activity. Starting from June 3, pre-monsoon thunderstorms, lightning, and rain are expected to begin from the southern and southeastern parts of the state and gradually increase.
Pre-Monsoon Rain in Pune
Pune is likely to experience pre-monsoon rain from June 4 to June 6, marking the beginning of the monsoon season in the region. The rainfall will gradually intensify, indicating the full onset of the monsoon.
Statewide Monsoon Activity
From June 3 onward, pre-monsoon rain activity across Maharashtra is expected to rise:
- Mumbai: Starting from June 5, isolated rain showers are likely, which will increase from June 6 to June 8.
- Pune, Nanded, and Satara: Rain activity is expected to intensify from June 5 to June 8.
Overall, the monsoon in Maharashtra is expected to arrive before the usual schedule, bringing relief to various regions and supporting agricultural activities.
