Pune Porsche Case: Two doctors from Sassoon General Hospital arrested for manipulating blood samples
In a new twist to the case, two doctors from Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital have been arrested in the Pune Porsche Accident case that involved a minor. The doctors were arrested on the charge of manipulation of blood sample, police said.
According to a report by Mint, “They have been arrested for alleged manipulation of blood samples and destruction of evidence in the case,” a senior police official said. Those held have been identified as Dr Ajay Taware and Shrihari Harnor, the official said.
The case is currently being probed by the crime branch.
India Today reported that the minor accused in the Pune crash was taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical test on the day of the accident. The initial blood sample showed no alcohol in the minor’s blood, which raised suspicions.
The arrests come after it was discovered that the blood samples of the minor involved in the accident were switched with those of another person who had not consumed alcohol.
India Today quoted sources saying that, the minor was taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical test at 11 am on the day of the accident, May 19. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report showed no alcohol in the first sample, raising suspicions.
A second blood report revealed alcohol in the minor’s system, and DNA tests confirmed the samples were from two different individuals, leading investigators to suspect that the doctors at the government hospital had tampered with the evidence to protect the accused juvenile.
The Pune crime branch is currently interrogating the two doctors about their alleged role in tampering with the crucial evidence.
