In a major infrastructure push, 12 railway stations in Pune district are set to undergo a complete transformation under the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This ambitious initiative aims to modernise 132 stations across Maharashtra, with a strong focus on boosting passenger experience and modern infrastructure.

The announcement was made during a press conference on Friday in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The scheme will touch nearly every corner of the state, with key stations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Andheri, Pune, Nagpur, Solapur, and others earmarked for upgrades.

Pune District Set for Rail Revamp

In Pune district, major stations including Pune Junction, Shivajinagar, and Lonavala are among the nine selected for redevelopment. The government has also approved funding for the redevelopment of additional stations with detailed allocations:

  • Baramati – ₹11.40 crore
  • Daund – ₹44 crore
  • Kedgaon – ₹12.50 crore
  • Akurdi – ₹34 crore
  • Chinchwad – ₹20.40 crore
  • Dehu Road – ₹8.05 crore
  • Talegaon – ₹40.34 crore
  • Hadapsar – ₹25 crore
  • Uruli – ₹13 crore

These upgrades will go beyond just physical facelift. The redevelopment aims to introduce world-class amenities like modern waiting lounges, food courts, clean restrooms, elevators, escalators, and real-time digital information systems.

The stations will also undergo aesthetic improvements and better integration with city transport systems. The goal is to create a seamless and comfortable journey experience for passengers, making railway travel more convenient, clean, and efficient.

This is a major step forward in the Railways’ long-term vision to make stations not just transit points but also welcoming urban spaces.
